Change
is Opportunity in the 21st Century
This is Twyman's signature keynote presentation. The first four segments
have to do with change and our response to it, with a lot of laughs
along the way. These include: (1) Accomplishments, culture, breakthroughs,
challenges of the organization he is addressing. (2) Cycles through
which all organizations tend to evolve. (3) A fun trip through some
of the social changes we have all witnessed over the last few decades
and the values all of us seem to be seeking today. (4) Elizabeth Kubler
Ross' steps of death and dying and how these same stages are experienced
by people during times of major organizational change and how to make
them a positive force. (5) The last section of the presentation is
based on books by Dr. Towery, "The Wisdom of Wolves: Natures Way to
Organizational Success and "The Power of Eagles: Nature's Way to Individual
Accomplishments" serving as a metaphor for human organizations. The
visual images and humor used throughout are memorable to all audiences.
This presentation is personalized for the particular client group
and never fails to leave the audience in a positive frame of mind
for the remainder of the conference and the meeting planner with a
smile on his/her face.
Group
Facilitation
Many
groups will have specific goals they would like to achieve and Twyman
personalizes his presentations to help them reach these objectives.
It could be arriving at a strategic plan for the coming year, devising
a workable "Team-oriented" program for the organization, coping
with organizational downsizing, improving teamwork, communication
skills and a host of other possibilities. Often Dr. Towery gives his
presentation "Change is Opportunity" at the beginning of the session
and then follows up with a facilitation session on the topics deemed
most critical by the organization. This is an area where Twyman's
many years of corporate experience make all of the difference to the
client.
Mismanaged
Agreement
In
this session, the video "The Abilene Paradox" is used to illustrate
how organizations get into serious difficulties when group members
fail to voice their true beliefs, thereby giving the impression that
they agree with a decision when, in actuality, they don't. This very
common phenomenon causes organizations, either work or family, to
take courses of action that the individual members do not truly support
The presentation is very humorous and gives special personal, family
and work examples to which we can all relate. After the video, Twyman
helps the group identify critical keys to the process, and the discussion
is individualized for each particular group. This is a program and
a concept that stay with the participants for years to come. They
will vow not to "go down the road to Abilene" again.
Conflict Resolution and Problem Solving
There
is an art to resolving conflict and solving problems within groups
and it generally is learned rather than ordained. People have different
styles of working with conflict, as do organizations, and it is important
to understand which styles are more effective in particular situations.
In this seminar, participants learn to understand these different
methods and how to move effectively from simply resolving conflict
to actually arriving at long term solutions to organizational challenges.
This is a practical session that produces immediate improvements to
the organization. Healthy conflict is crucial if an organization is
going to execute effectively, but it is a process to be understood
and managed.
Myers
Briggs Personality Indicator
As
a person certified to administer the Myers Briggs for many years,
Twyman has found the Myers Briggs Personality Indicator to be the
single best tool to help members of an organization understand how
they, as well as the people they work with, prefer to deal with life,
both personally and professionally. This instrument not only reveals
individual tendencies, but organizational personality traits as well.
It lets people see why they have difficulty working with one person
but can easily get along with another More importantly, they learn
what steps to take to improve their effectiveness with everyone. This
is truly a great tool, which helps organizations improve both their
performance and the satisfaction of their employees.
Groupthink
Group
decision making is a tricky business and extremely vulnerable to failure,
for decision making is ultimately a very human process and therefore
subject to human error. This seminar utilizes as a teaching tool an
outstanding video which features remarkable footage of the NASA Challenger
space tragedy, The Bay of Pigs fiasco, and our successful handling
of the Cuban missile crisis. The seminar highlights how we each can
spot defective group decisions, as well as offering strategies on
how to confront one another, to reason and to make successful decisions,
together. This subject is not only extremely interesting, but the
lessons taught can be crucial to an organization's very survival.
Presentation
Skills
The
time is past when we can count the CEO or COO of an organization to
be the person that represents our organization to the public. Today
every member must be ready to stand up before any group and make a
favorable impression for the organization, the industry and the person
themselves. In this seminar, fun but effective methods are used to
teach the art of giving a powerful, humorous and convincing presentation
A video camera is often used, with just the right mixture of factual
information and practical application. Studies show that speaking
in public is America's greatest fear, outscoring even fear of illness
and death. In this seminar people are shown how to shed this fear
and unleash the potential we all possess. Great speakers are not born,
they are carefully taught. This seminar will make effective ambassadors
of your employees, regardless of position.
