Ain't it the truth! The second time around finds us a lot smarter, which somehow translates into luckier and more successful. Unfortunately, people often don't get a second or third chance, but are judged OUT if their first try fails. In love or business, we often don't get three strikes. A psychologist friend of mine emphasizes the importance of INTENT, which can be much more important than the actual, initial outcome.

What someone hopes for, dreams of, visualizes, plans is a much more valid picture of their soul, worth, substance than the initial outcome. After all:

Watson liked the spunk, creativity, risk-taking INTENT of the young executive and was thinking of the future.


Mediation works when the parties want closure without suffering the embarrassment, time and expense of going to court. Compromise is the key. Twyman is a trained mediator with years of bottom line corporate experience. Mediate, don't litigate.

If the strategy is sound, the tactics are fixable. Whether it is our personal or professional lives, what a person is TRYING to do should be given great value. The easiest way to lose the support of those around us is to constantly alter our goals:

"WE SHOULD SELDOM CHANGE OUR DESTINATION OVERNIGHT, BUT WE SHOULD ALWAYS BE READY TO CHANGE OUR TACTICS TO GET THERE AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE."
