Yes, it's that time of year again.
The holiday season. The next few weeks are not prime time for arguments,
a change of key personnel, major disagreements or a change of basic
strategy - if it can be avoided. |
| "YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND A FEW ESKIMOS READY TO TELL THE CONGOLESE HOW TO COPE WITH THE HEAT." |
| If your people have not learned by now, you are not likely to teach them before the New Year. The gifted manager concentrates the next few weeks on consistency, execution and communication - both written and verbal. This is never a small task, but particularly so when we realize that many people's basic instincts urge them to slack off from Thanksgiving through the first of the New Year. | ||||||
| "IN GOOD COMMUNICATION, PEOPLE SHOULD BE IN NO DOUBT THAT YOU HAVE REACHED A CONCLUSION." |
| Reinforce your organization's conclusions and agreements,
but don't assume they will automatically be carried out. After all, the
next few weeks are a time when people will be traveling, welcoming family
and house guests, buying presents, going to and giving parties. People's
jobs are often simply not their top priority during this time. It is your job to remind them that: |
"THE PATH OF DUTY LIES IN THE THING NEARBY, BUT MEN OFTEN SEEK IT IN THINGS FAR OFF." Chinese Proverb |
So, instead of trying to "rehabilitate" the year by dramatic organizational changes or actions, concentrate on your own growth and self development. As the great golfer Sam Snead advised: |
"FORGET YOUR OPPONENTS; ALWAYS PLAY AGAINST PAR." |
| BEGIN THE NEW YEAR WITH A RETREAT OR SEMINAR FOR
YOUR MANAGEMENT TEAM. HAVE TWYMAN FACILITATE YOUR GROUP'S STRATEGIC AND
PRACTICAL PLANNING SESSION FOR THE YEAR AHEAD.
| Know that while this time of year means happiness
and cheer for many people, others are experiencing feelings of great
sadness, loss, anxiety and even depression. This gives you a great opportunity to listen. |
| "MOST OF THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE I'VE KNOWN ARE THE ONES WHO DO MORE LISTENING THAN TALKING...YOU DON'T HAVE TO BLOW OUT THE OTHER FELLOW'S LIGHT TO LET YOUR OWN SHINE." Bernard Baruch |
What they say about Twyman: "The seminar was balanced with audience participation,
practical examples and amusing anecdotes, creating a synergy that
held our interest and an eagerness for more!" Planning a corporate retreat? Need a keynote speaker? Workshop facilitator? Problem mediation? Call (615) 370-3587 Website: http://www.twymantowery.com Email: tt@twymantowery.com |

in life has received help from others - no one does it alone (though
many seem to forget this reality).

| Benjamin Disraeli stated a truth for all seasons, but particularly true for the holiday season when he advised us: |
| “THE GREATEST GOOD YOU CAN DO FOR ANOTHER IS NOT JUST TO SHARE YOUR RICHES, BUT REVEAL TO HIM HIS OWN” AND SO IT IS! Carpe diem (Seize the day) |
